Jessica Marie
Alba (as
she is sometimes credited) is an American actress who was
born in Pomona, California, on April 28, 1981. Jessica
is daughter to parents Catherine Jensen and Mark Alba, who
married in their teenage years. Both of her parents were
born in California, her mother is of Danish descent, and her
father is Mexican American.
Jessica’s maternal
grandfather was a Marine NCO for over thirty years,
serving in the Pacific during World War II, and later as
Assistant Drum Major for the United States Marine Band.
Jessica Alba was raised in an Air Force family along with
her brother, Joshua (also and actor) and her
grandparents, until she was seventeen years old. Her
father's air force career took the family to various
locations such as; Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio,
Texas before finally settling back in
California.
Jessica early on
life suffered from a few physical maladies; she suffered
collapsed lungs twice, suffered
from pneumonia
four to five times a year, a ruptured appendix, and a
cyst on her tonsils. Jessica even has acknowledged
suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) during
childhood.
This sadly had a
negative impact on her, as it isolated her from other
children at school because, as Jessica
Alba claims, she was in the hospital so often
that no one got to know her well enough to befriend her.
However when her family moved to California, her health
improved. She graduated from high school at age 16, and
subsequently attended the Atlantic Theater
Company.
